SKY High models and demonstrates the kind of civil behaviour in political activism that I hope my children will appreciate as they get older. I've joined the Working Group because I believe the collaborative and dialogic approach we have taken with the Government will result in positive outcomes that we can all be proud of. This kind of public engagement is a better way of doing politics.

Local to me is somewhere my children can ride to, walk to, get to under their own steam - safely. Our local secondary school is in fact five kilometres from our house, along busy roads and truck routes, but no bike paths.

With over 30 children in our street, nearly every family is sending their children to a different high school. It feels like we're the forgotten suburbs when it comes to secondary education, which is ironic, given that there are 8 qualified teachers in our street.

It’s ok for primary education in the west, but for some reason local secondary education wasn’t considered feasible!? The more I delved into the issue the more stories I heard about families leaving the area when their children were in middle primary years. I was hearing of families reclaiming their lapsed faith so that their children could get into non-government religious schools which offered lower fees. Although for many this decision puts family finances and relationships under pressure. The very idea, for many people, of sending their children to a school that didn’t accurately align with the changed family values puts strain on parents and children.
