SKY High’s members are soaring, thanks to an appearance at the Yarraville Festival.

SKY, which stands for Seddon, Kingsville and Yarraville, High was born from the concern of local parents about secondary school options.

Now the group has more than 800 families and local politicians working to get a new high school built in the area.

Spokeswoman Susan Douglass said that in an election year they were keen to make an impact.

“Yarraville Festival was really good, we were non-stop for most of the day and we got an additional 200 names, which shows people are really keen to get a high school in the area,” Ms Douglass said.

“We’re also looking for interested people from Newport and Spotswood because Williamstown High School is close to capacity.”

Ms Douglass said while a lot of work still needed to be done, she had a good feeling about the project.

An independent report into the idea commissioned by Education Minister Bronwyn Pike is due around March and will examine the potential catchment area’s primary school enrolment data.
