Meeting told eligible areas yet to be defined

MORE data is needed before planning consultants can complete a draft report on a proposed new public high school in the Seddon, Kingsville Yarraville (SKY) area.

Residents from the SKY High working group, along with local state Labor MPs Marsha Thompson (Footscray) and Wade Noonan (Williamstown), were told at a meeting last Wednesday the school’s catchment areas still need to be defined and data on existing primary school enrolments obtained.

Spatial Vision, the independent consultant appointed by Education Minister Bronwyn Pike, presented a range of data last week needed to support the establishment of a new secondary college. Population and age data of young students living in Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay were included. The schools catchment would include parts of Spotswood, South Kingsville and Altona North. SKY High spokeswoman Janine Lloyd said SKY would continue working with the external consultants on how to interpret the numbers and what is really happening in the SKY neighbourhood. Ms Lloyd said Spatial would include a comparison of yield rates after the reopening of Fitzroy High School in the draft report, which is due to be released before Christmas. The parties will meet again in late January before the final report is released.
